Isaiah 25:8–12 (ESV)

Isaiah 25:8–12 (NASB)

Isaiah 25:8–12 (NIV)

Isaiah 25:1–12 (LEB)

8He will swallow up death forever;
and the Lord God will wipe away
tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

9
It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

10For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down in his place, as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.

11
And he will spread out his hands in the midst of it as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim, but the Lord will lay low his pompous pride together with the skill of his hands.

12And the high fortifications of
his walls he will bring down, lay low, and cast to the ground, to the dust.

8He will swallow up death for all
time, And the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces, And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.

9
And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have
waited; Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”

10For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain, And Moab will be trodden down in his place As straw is trodden down in the water
of a manure pile.

11And he will spread out his hands in the middle of it As a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim, But the Lord
will lay low his pride together with the trickery of his hands.

12The unassailable fortifications
of your walls He will bring down, Lay low and cast to the ground, even to the dust.

8he will swallow up death forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken.

9
In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

10
The hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain; but
Moab will be trampled in their land as straw is trampled down in the manure.

11
They will stretch out their hands in it, as swimmers stretch out their hands to swim. God will bring down their pride despite the cleverness of their hands.

12
He will bring down your high
fortified walls and lay them low; he will bring them down to the ground, to the very dust.

8He will destroy death forever,
and the Lord Yahweh will wipe off the tears from all faces, and he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth, for Yahweh has spoken.

9And one will say, on that day, “Look! This is our God! We have waited for him and he saved us! This is Yahweh; we waited for him! Let us be glad, and let us rejoice in his
salvation.”

10For the hand of Yahweh will rest
on this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down under him as a heap of straw is trampled down in waters of a dung heap.

11And it will spread out its hands in the midst of it, just as the swimmer spreads out to swim, and its pride will be brought low with the movement of its hands.

12And he will throw down the fortification of the high point of your walls; he will bring it low; he will send it to the
ground, to the dust.

Honor . . .Righteousness . . .

One of the challenges of memorizing versus of the Bible is the wording, it does not seem natural.  However, this does depend on the version of the Bible one is memorizing.  I chose the ESV because it is more of word for word translation.  The NIV might be closer to our today’s vernacular.

Ephesians 6:1–4 (ESV)

Children and Parents

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Exodus 20:12 (ESV)

Exodus 20:12 (NIV)

Deuteronomy 5:16 (ESV)

Deuteronomy 5:16 (NIV)

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

16 “ ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord
your God is giving you.

16 “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord
your God is giving you.

The Sabbath . . .

I am very surprised I have not taken notice of the ten commandments more closely before.  I have trusted the Ten Commandments I have seen posted on posters, images and such.  They all summarized them down to their main elements and did so in what seems to be no more than one sentence.  Here again, there is much more description of the commandment. Normally, it is just “Don’t forget the Sabbath”.  I can remember them that way, but I wanted to memorize them as God wrote them.  God Bless.

Exodus 20:8–11 (ESV)

Exodus 20:8–11 (NIV)

Exodus 20:8–11 (NASB95)

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

8 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10  but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

The Lords 3rd Commandment

I find the subtle difference between the version to help shed light on a fuller meaning of the Word.  Notice how in the ESV and NASB, the word “him” is used and in the NIV “anyone”.  How about in the NIV uses the word “misuse” rather than “take”.  And in the NASB, it uses the world “unpunished” rather than “guiltless”.

Deuteronomy 5:11 (NASB95)

11  ‘You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

Deuteronomy 5:11 (NIV)

11 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Deuteronomy 5:11 (ESV)

11 “ ‘You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

2nd Commandment

In general, the commandments have been summarized to their critical points and leave out a lot of other dialogue. This second commandment was a lot longer than I had thought and for some reason, I had a more challenge that I anticipated of memorizing it. I am about 95% there and will begin working on the 3rd commandment.

ESV

NIV

NASB

Exodus 20:4–6 (ESV)

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:4–6 (NIV)

4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:4–6 (NASB95)

4  “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5  “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
